The Startup Hour, a reality TV show, is coming to Sacramento! The Startup Hour can be best described as a combination of Shark Tank and American Idol. Sacramento was one of six cities chosen to be featured in Season One. Other cities include Orlando, Boston, Austin, Pittsburg, Kansas City, and San Francisco. The show will be televised in 6 TV markets under an agreement with Hearst Television and various streaming video channels. What makes the show unique is that the audience will be able to provide funding to startups they like through a patented crowdfunding process. The Startup Hour is the brain child of executive producer Jonathan Block.
Filming in Sacramento is scheduled for Tuesday, March 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Urban Hive. Founders will be given up to 4 minutes pitch their startup. To register for a slot, just click here and fill out the registration form. You will need to have a 4 minute video prepared to be able to register. Priority will be given to those that registered, however walk-in on the day of the filming will be allowed, time permitting. The show is scheduled to premiere on May 13.
I’m personally excited because The Startup Hour gives our startup community some national attention and new avenues of possible funding. I encourage local startups to tryout; if you’re able to make the show, you’ll get great television exposure and maybe some funding too!
